Kansas City police identify human remains found in backyard

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Remains found in the backyard of a home last year have now been identified and are being investigated as a homicide. Police found 53-year-old Sirrena S. Truitt in the backyard of a home near Paloma Avenue and Oakley Avenue on Sunday, Oct. 30.


Kansas City gun store sentenced for selling machine gun components

The owner of a Kansas City, Mo., gun shop was sentenced to over two years of prison for selling components to convert firearms into machine guns. Charles Weston, 37, is not eligible for parole. In February 2022, he pleaded guilty to one count of illegally possessing a machine gun.


KC man sentenced after using fake gun in attempted Independence restaurant robbery

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. - A 23-year-old Kansas City, Missouri man who attempted to rob an Independence restaurant with a fake gun, but was stopped when employees fought back, was sentenced in federal court for the robbery. Bryan C. Byers was sentenced Tuesday to six years and six months in federal prison without parole.


Riverside police investigate after 3 men are stabbed, 1 is shot

RIVERSIDE, Mo. (KCTV) - The Riverside Police Department is investigating after three men were stabbed and another was shot on Wednesday night. It happened at about 8:40 p.m. at the Skyline Apartments in the 5100 block of NW Karen Blvd. Police went to the area after receiving a call about a disturbance.


Grandview police looking for shooting suspect that wounded one

SOURCE: KMBC Police are searching for a suspect who shot someone overnight outside a Grandview apartment complex. The shooting happened just before 3 a.m. Wednesday at the Victory Apartments, located on the 12000 block of 3rd Street. The victim, expected to live, suffered a "serious injury" and was taken to the hospital.


Family wants answers after KCK police officer shot, killed 50-year-old man

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - An Iowa man is looking for the truth after his brother was shot dead by Kansas City, Kansas police last week. John Anderton, 50, was killed Friday after he rode away from a double overdose scene on a bicycle. Both OD victims survived.


Ottawa man receives 253-month sentence for raping 13-year-old girl in Lawrence

A 22-year-old Ottawa, Kan., man was sentenced to 253 months in prison for raping a 13-year-old girl from Lawrence. Ernest Ingram accepted a plea agreement in December. Upon release, he will receive lifetime supervision and register as a lifetime sex offender. "This young survivor demonstrated tremendous bravery in bringing Mr. Ingram to justice," District Attorney Suzanne Valdez said.


19 year old arrested in Leavenworth High School student's death

LEAVENWORTH, Ks. (KCTV) - A 19-year-old man was arrested overnight in a Leavenworth High School football player's death that stemmed from a fight during a pickup basketball game. Police had been searching for the homicide suspect since the deadly encounter Monday. Leavenworth police announced on Thursday morning that the suspect had been found and arrested overnight in Grandview, MO.


Man with knife arrested after breaking into Kansas City, Kansas home, threatening owner

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - A man was arrested after police said he broke into a home in Kansas City, Kansas and threatened a man with a weapon. The homeowner is crediting close neighbors as one of the reason he's alive. The home invasion happened in the Strawberry Hill neighborhood.
