1 person suffers life-threatening injuries after shooting in KCMO Tuesday

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - One person has suffered life-threatening injuries after a shooting in Kansas City, Missouri, Tuesday afternoon. The shooting occurred in the 3100 block of east 51st Street, a few blocks away from Hogan Elementary. This is a developing story and will be updated.


Tonganoxie man charged in KCPD officer, pedestrian, K-9's death appears in court

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The 19-year-old Tonganoxie man accused of speeding through a red light and causing a crash with the Kansas City, Missouri, police cruiser that killed two people and a KCPD K-9 appeared Monday in Jackson County Circuit Court.


Kansas City man to spend 21 years in federal prison for heroin, cocaine conspiracy

A Kansas City, Mo., man has been sentenced to over 21 years in federal prison without parole for his role in a conspiracy to distribute heroin and cocaine after leading law enforcement officers on a high-speed chase.Michael A. Baldwin was sentenced Tuesday afternoon in federal court.


Kansas City man convicted in 2018 killing of his wife

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A Jackson County jury finds a 47-year-old Kansas City, Kansas man guilty for the 2018 killing of his wife. The jury on Monday convicted Gene Birdsong and recommended he be sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, plus 17 years more for the deadly stabbing of his wife Tabitha in November of 2018.


Johnson County, Kan., woman sentenced in 2-year-old child's fentanyl poisoning death

A Johnson County, Kan., woman has been sentenced by a judge in connection with the death of a toddler by fentanyl poisoning last year.Shelly Vallejo was sentenced to 123 months in prison on three separate crimes: second-degree murder, aggravated endangerment of a child and felony possession of fentanyl.


KCKPD searching for vehicle involved in deadly shooting

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The Kansas City, Kansas Police Department is asking the public for help in identifying a vehicle last seen leaving the scene of a deadly shooting. Around 8:20 p.m. on Feb. 15, officers responded to a reported shooting near North 11th Street and Haskell Avenue, just north of Parallel Parkway.


Motorcyclist dies more than a week after a crash on 23rd Street, case referred to prosecutor's office for possible charges

The motorcyclist hurt in a crash on 23rd Street in Kansas City more than a week ago has died as a result of his injuries.Now, the case is being forwarded to the Jackson County Prosecutor's Office for possible charges.Police said a white Chrysler 300 was traveling west on 23rd Street in the left lane on Feb.


Kansas City, Kansas, police seeking truck connected to Feb. 15 homicide of 18-year-old

Independence neighbors want answers after gunfire causes damages to homes, vehicles

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. - An Independence, Missouri neighborhood caught in the middle of a shootout and then a police chase. Now Independence police are searching for as many as five suspects. This all happened late Monday afternoon. "This is such a quite neighborhood," said Charlie Dusheke, who lives in the neighborhood.

No injuries reported after shots fired incident triggers police chase in Independence

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - No one was injured after Independence police responded to reports of shots fired and later engaged in a short chase on Monday afternoon. According to police, officers responded to the 2500 block of S. Tomaqua Avenue at around 5 p.m. on reports of a shooting.

Lee's Summit, Mo., Police Department announces retirement of K9 Falko

A very good boy has retired from the Lee's Summit Police Department. Police announced the retirement of K9 Falko, who has served with the department since December 2016. The German Shepherd was originally from Belgium. During his lengthy career, he was used by the department 1,212 times.

Standout Athlete, SWAT Team Member Now Leads New Teammates As Sergeant

Grimmett enjoyed his time as a SWAT Team member so much, he was nervous about his promotion to sergeant in 2021. The nervousness is gone, replaced by responsibility. The safety of the officers Grimmett supervises matters; it sticks with him. He's intent on sharing all of his knowledge as he approaches his 11th anniversary at KCPD.
