Kansas City CostCo Trans Care Settled

For now . . .

Meanwhile, the scare for local biz about KCMO calling out an urban biz and threatening tax abatements might hurt urban commerce in the long run.

Meanwhile . . .

Here's the word from the Kansas City LGBTQ Commish . . .

In October of 2022, the Kansas City LGBTQ Commission was made aware of a number of Trans Kansas Citians who experienced barriers to receiving affirmative healthcare from the Costco in Midtown Kansas City. Today, we’re reporting to the community that the matter has been settled to the satisfaction of all parties.

We want to thank the City of Kansas City and the City of Kansas City’s Civil Rights and Equal Opportunity (CREO) Department for taking the issue of LGBTQ+ discrimination seriously and for conducting a thorough investigation.

We as a commission stay committed to advocating on behalf of LGBTQ+ Kansas Citians and will help enforce the non-discrimination ordinance that states that no Kansas Citian will be discriminated against in the City of Kansas City based on their sexual orientation and/or gender identity. If you or someone you know feels that you have been discriminate against or was the subject of a hate incident:

You can report that in the MyKCMO app and/or online at www.kcmo.gov/talk-to-us/mykcmo.

Kansas City reaches settlement on Costco transgender health care discrimination case

Kansas City's department of Civil Rights and Equal Opportunity (CREO) reached a settlement Friday in its discrimination investigation into a Kansas City Costco's testosterone-prescribing practices for transgender and nonbinary patients. The office opened the investigation last year following a Star report that at least five transgender and nonbinary patients were denied their prescribed testosterone at the pharmacy.
