Photo credit . . . At the Kansas City Zoo - The Great Blue Whale was installed in 1967. It was made up of 18,000 pounds of concrete and reinforcement rods. The iconic walk-through sculpture was removed during a major renovation in the 1990s and this bit of morning nostalgia provides a good place for us to start talking about an upcoming festival of fried foods and nitrates.
