KANSAS CITY WESTSIDE FIGHTS AGAINST FRENCH RESTAURANT!!!

A battle against gentrification has many Kansas City Westside residents yelling "sacré bleu!!!" at the prospect of an upscale restaurant coming soon to an urban block.

OR . . .

Westside is not the left bank: NO MONSIEUR SAY RESIDENTS!!!

OR . . .

Will French surrender against angry Westsiders???

Sadly, TKC doesn't know the answer to any of these questions but we're happy to blog some of the deets surrounding a controversy more stinky than widely celebrated rapist Pepé Le Pew . . .

The basics . . .

Yet another French restaurant wants to move in on Summit.

There's a very KICK-ASS creperie up the street and yet another French-y themed restaurant that's open a few hours a week on Washington.

And so . . .

Fear of a French takeover has gripped neighbors.

Never mind that a French restaurant is going to have a hard time making a go of it just a few steps away from one of the rougher bus stops near downtown. The fire engines constantly running kinda kill upscale ambiance. During football season "the homies" famously plug in a big screen TV on near the public street to watch the Chiefs game . . . And summertime cookouts are a tradition in the empty parking lot across the street.

And don't get me started on the "antics" of the housing project just one block away . . . Wherein one dude was tragically shot to death at the outset of last year.

Still . . .

Here's more info regarding their silly, silly story . . .

“It’s just going to keep adding to this effect of gentrification,” said Elizabeth Mounteer, Westside resident. “I think gentrification is hard, but it’s even harder when city officials contribute to it as well.”

Proposed restaurant leaves bad taste in local residents’ mouths

BY JOE ARCE AND COREY CRABLE Some Westside residents are refusing to say "Oui" to a proposed French cafe at 2032 Summit. The building at that address, currently zoned as a single residence, has been purchased by an area investment group named Crossley Innovations LLC, with plans to open the eatery there.
