So far there's not a self-sustaining profit model here . . . It's all predicated on government funding and fake numbers tied to even more subsidized development shell games.

Take a peek at a recent report regarding a money train running that now seems to be running on empty . . .

It would cost up to $222 million to extend the streetcar from the River Market to downtown North Kansas City, a figure larger than the community could raise on its own if it were to seek a federal match, according to a study’s preliminary findings.

That cost estimate, which was presented to city officials last August, doesn’t include the $4.7 million to $7.9 million in annual operation and maintenance costs for an extension, according to a study that’s been paused as streetcar advocates try to determine the next moves.

“We don’t have a path sufficient to match federal funding and to operate the system,” said Tom Gerend, executive director of the Kansas City Streetcar Authority. “We have to find an alternative to how we’re going to pay for it.”

North Kansas City Streetcar Extension Sidetracked by Financial Concerns
