HARRISONVILLE, Mo. - A Cass County courtroom could be one of the first places in the state to let someone out of prison by expunging a previous marijuana conviction. Previous convictions for people who have already finished sentences or have past felony and misdemeanor charges are automatically expunged over the course of the year according to the language in the Amendment Missouri voters passed in 2022.


Man charged after 2 people die following crash, KCKPD pursuit

JACKSON COUNTY, Mo. (KCTV) - A Kansas City, Kansas, man has been charged after two people died when he allegedly crashed into their vehicle while fleeing from police. The Jackson County Prosecutor's Office says 30-year-old Charles T. Matthews Jr. has been charged with two counts of second-degree murder or, in the alternative, first-degree involuntary manslaughter.


29 Cass County dogs ordered to Humane Society custody, with a catch

A Cass County judge on Thursday ordered 29 dogs seized from a property south of Pleasant Hill into the custody of the Humane Society of Missouri. However, the order is suspended for five days, giving Kalen K. Kunkel, 67, time to produce more than $27,000 to pay for veterinarian bills after Cass County deputies seized the dogs in December.
