Kansas City Royals' Downtown Stadium: Disaster In The Making

Our main takeaway from a conversation this week . . .

THE ROYALS AREN'T SHARING ANY RELEVANT INFO WITH TAXPAYERS AHEAD OF AN EPIC MULTI-BILLION DOLLAR DEAL!!!

Their pitch is a bad joke.

No deets.

Not even a definite location.

No cost estimate.

No timeline.

THE KANSAS CITY ROYALS OFFERED NOTHING BUT EMPTY REASSURANCES ABOUT THE IDEA OF A DOWNTOWN STADIUM!!!

Because the team has every local station on their payroll . . . Of course there's no critical reporting or commentary.

In fact, local news coverage offers nothing hype and tacit agreement for corporate welfare.

The only bright side we can find here is this . . .

There will be several local developers who will lose MILLIONS trying to sway the development of the stadium.

Here's more from the presser without any real reporting . . .

Sherman has a vision for what he'd like to see the Royals gameday experience and year-round trips to the downtown-area become.

"There's a long list of new modern ballparks that are part of the vibrant neighborhoods and districts that are benefitting from their integrated location and all of them have created transformational change," Sherman said.

Groups like Stand Up KC and KC Tenants have expressed reservations about the project. The club hoped to dispel those Tuesday saying there will be a community benefit agreement. The team is considering 14 sites in the downtown area.

"We are not wanting to be in the business to displace residents and businesses and we don't envision that to be a part of this project," Royals Chief Legal Officer Adam Sachs said.

The $2 billion stadium and ballpark village will bring in an estimated $180 million extra dollars a year and create 20,000 jobs according to projections provided by Populous and HR &A Advisors.

Another tidbit . . .

Sherman said the bulk of the funding for the ballpark district redevelopment would come from private sources. Jackson County taxpayers would be asked to extend the current 3/8th cents sales tax used for the Truman Sports Complex.

The earliest an election to extend the sales tax could occur would be next August, team officials said.

Quick note . . .

THE BILLIONAIRE IS COMPLETELY WRONG ABOUT TAX QUESTIONS OR DIDN'T TELL THE CROWD THAT THOSE FUNDS WILL HAVE TO BE APPROVED AGAIN BY MISSOURI POLITICOS GIVEN THE MOVE!!!

That's right . . . This hot mess is going back to the Missouri GOP in Jeff City before the bad deal is finalized.

It's just another fun twist in this process that will cost taxpayers BILLIONS more than anyone bargained.
