Kansas City Playlist: Crime Expert Exposes Police Staffing Stats

Our friend Dr. Evans is a leading, local criminology expert and he was kind enough to send this note our way.

Given all the talk about poling today . . . We hope to provide more context for the discussion with this information . . .

Dr. Ernest Evans: KCPD Personnel Statistics

Number of sworn officers in KCPD at the end of 2019: 1385;
Number of sworn officers in KCPD at the end of 2020: 1288;
Number of sworn officers in KCPD at the end of 2021: 1185.

Stats not yet in for 2022—but Department has continued to lose officers in the course of the year.

In response to the riots in 1968 the city established a commission on public safety that recommended a total strength for the KCPD of 1500 sworn officers.

So, KCPD is currently massively understrength.

First priority of new Police Chief:  Restore numbers and morale of KCPD.

Otherwise, city as we know it will implode in the next several years.
