Kansas City Mayor Q Disputes Claim Brian Platt Told Spokesman To Lie

As we noted last night . . .

THE CITY MANAGER IS JUST ABOUT KAPUT IN KANSAS CITY BUT MAYOR Q SEEMS TO BE DOUBLING DOWN ON SUPPORT FOR THE EMBATTLED BUREAUCRAT!!!

Interestingly . . . He doesn't seem very adamant about throwing Platt overboard and over the years we've learned that Mayor Q hasn't ever shown much loyalty to his colleagues . . .

During an unrelated press event on Thursday, Lucas said he has “seen absolutely nothing to indicate that that would be accurate.

“I don’t have that concern, I have not seen that. I’ve never actually seen that, or any suggestion related thereto,” the mayor said. “I don’t know the full details of the entire situation,” Lucas added. “All I know is I have faith that our entire staff is open, honest, transparent and we welcome anybody to look through our numbers and our data, and I think you’ll see that that’s verified.”

That's a solid milquetoast quote . . .

On the other side of the equation newsman JimmyC seems more fired up about the sitch . . .

"I trust, Chris Hernandez a lot more than Brian Platt. I do not believe Hernandez would accuse Platt of urging him to lie to the media if he had not done so.

"Not coming clean with the press is one thing; it happens. But telling your communications manager that lying to the media is part and parcel of a “media strategy”?

"No. That’s just plain wrong. It’s outrageous. It’s maddening."

Meanwhile . . .

From our end we're honestly surprised that the Mayor would stand in the way of this public smack down given that the city manager's performance and overall ineffectual approach to local governance hasn't created earned city hall a great deal of respect/love over Platt's two-year-tenure.

'I have not seen that,' Lucas says of claim that Kansas City manager told staff to lie

Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas says he is not aware of the city intentionally misrepresenting information as alleged in a recent lawsuit that accuses the city manager of pressuring staff to lie about city projects. Chris Hernandez, the former director of communications, alleges that City Manager Brian Platt instructed staff to lie as part of a "media strategy."

Brian Platt must go. Now.

I am writing this post against my best interests as far as my major civic activity is concerned. As president of the City of Fountains Foundation, a partner organization to the Parks and Recreation Department, I lobby city officials, including City Manager Brian Platt, to keep Kansas City's publicly owned fountains, monuments and sculptures in...
