Kansas City Area Olive Garden Rant Inspires Viral Anti-Work Sensation

As always, it's important to define terms . . .

Anti-work, has roots in anarchist and socialist economic critique, argues that the bulk of today’s jobs aren’t necessary; instead, they enforce wage slavery and deprive workers of the full value of their output.

That doesn’t mean there would be no work, however. Supporters of the anti-work movement believe people should self-organise and labour only as much as needed, rather than working longer hours to create excess capital or goods.

This idea might be too far "out there" for most people . . .

So we offer a personal perspective . . .

By now most readers and Internets denizens have seen this angry missive and here's our main takeaway:

It's unprofessional.

Moreover . . . The labor shortage and rise of tech make this kind of behavior outdated and nearly dangerous . . . A boss with this kind of attitude risks liability, bad vibes and all manner of sabotage . . . After the pandemic most people now realize that life is simply too short to get this hung up on staffing issues at one of the worst restaurants known to humankind which, ironically, hosts what might arguably be the best bread sticks in the Universe.

Anyhoo . . .

Here's the recap . . .

On Dec. 6, 2022, a Reddit user posted on the r/antiwork subreddit a screenshot of a purported "mass email" rant from a manager at an Olive Garden restaurant. The subject of the letter was about employees who had apparently repeatedly "called off" with various excuses for why they were unable to show up for work. "If your dog died, you need to bring him in and prove it to us," the letter read. "If it's a 'family emergency' and you can't say, too bad. Go work somewhere else."

The result . . .

Parent company Darden took action after a mean-spirited missive from the Kansas worker went viral, drawing negative attention to the brand, which has been struggling with inflation-related setbacks.

“This message is not aligned with our company’s values,” a Darden representative told KCTV5 in a statement. “We can confirm we have parted ways with this manager.”
