Kansas City 2022 Homicide #167: Deadly Midtown Gunfire Overnight

The morning starts with another murder as Kansas City continues to outpace last year's pace for killing. 

At the middle of this month . . . There's now a very real threat we could break the horrific homicide record of 179 set back in 2020. 

Here's the overnight report . . .

Homicide 3600 block of Jefferson

This morning just after 1am officers were called to the 3600 block of Jefferson on a sound of shots call.

On arrival they were directed to a residence on the block in the area where the shots were heard and they located an adult male shooting victim unresponsive on the front steps of the residence.

EMS was summoned who declared the victim deceased here at the scene.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the victim and one or more individuals had an interaction there in front of the residence that led to shots being fired and the victim being struck.

Detectives and crime scene investigators will be canvassing for witnesses and processing the scene for evidence, as well as working to determine the victim ID.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Kansas City, Missouri, police are investigating the city's latest homicide. They were called to the 3600 block of Jefferson Street just after 1 a.m. Police say they found an adult man on the steps of a home that had been shot. He died on the scene.


Man killed on front steps of home north of Westport

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - A man is dead and the killer is still on the loose following an early Wednesday morning shooting outside of a home just north of Westport in Kansas City. Officers responded shortly before 2 a.m. to a home near 36th Street and Jefferson Street in reference to a shooting.
