Teacher Fired & Anti-Racism Mandate At University Academy After N-Word Crisis

After a teacher was fired, a Kansas City school sent a 2,000+ word note to parents in the aftermath of a dust up involving a recording of inappropriate and unprofessional classroom language.

Check more detail . . .

"The incident not only violated school policy, but also does not represent the standard of excellence we expect at the school," the school said in a letter to families. "We are deeply saddened and sorry for the impact the incident has had on students, parents, alumni, staff and the community. The nature of the incident is contrary to the very mission for which the school was created."

That's cool but here's what's more interesting and sent our way by KICK-ASS TKC READERS . . .

Check some of the steps school officials will take to remedy this situation . . .

The superintendent will review the current composition of University Academy’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee and make a recommendation to the Board, which will consider any changes including the idea to broaden its members and review its purpose. The Committee will meet no later than January 31, 2023, to improve training and activities consistent with its purpose.  The plan will specifically include anti-racism training and should address training for the Board.  The plan should be presented to the Board no later than February 28, 2023.

University Academy will work to increase the racial diversity of its staff, particularly its professional staff.  (Currently the ratio of staff is 39% black, 59%, white, 1% Asian, and 1% Hispanic). The superintendent will develop a plan to increase the school’s efforts to recruit and retain African-American teachers and will report the plan to the Board.

The superintendent will review, and seek advice when appropriate, to approve teacher assignments each semester for any course that includes curriculum pertaining to African-American history or studies.

For the record . . .

TKC doesn't think "diversity" is a dirty word even if the term is constantly bemoaned by pundits hoping to trigger their audience.

However . . .

We're not sure it's a great idea to engage in overtly racially-charged crackdowns simply to answer the stupid word choice of a fired teacher.
