Newsflash: Years Of Nepotism & Politicking Dissuade Kansas City Firefighter Recruits

Don't get it twisted . . .

TKC has a great deal of respect for all first responders and public safety personnel.

This post is merely a reality check . . . And inspiration for locals to do their own research:

Ask ANY firefighter to get REAL about their vocation and many of them will complain about politics, nepotism and internal strife ruining an otherwise rewarding job.

A few more thing to consider . . .

We can't help notice that the downturn in recruitment comes not so long after KCFD swallowed MAST and new recruits are often surprised to learn that THE VAST MAJORITY OF THEIR WORK is using their EMT skills and not actually firefighting . . . Moreover, the noobs get stuck with this double duty as senior FD workers don't really like playing emergency nurse to the unwashed masses.

Again . . .

All of these folks have our respect here at TKC because we're certainly not answering any calls for help and it seems like a lot of other workers are making that same decision.

Here's the word . . .

"KCFD is down more than a hundred people and recruitment numbers are low. The department is doing what it can do to combat the issue, but the chief says it's a concern."
