Kansas City University Academy Confronts 'Stupidity' Amid N Word Crisis

A bit of an update on social media adventures . . .

One of our favorite local bloggers has moved from covering Jack The Ripper rumors to, once again, wasting words on the antics of high school classrooms.

Brief TKC aside . . .

Only immature people gripe about the words they can't say. Adults realize that a great deal of their speech holds consequences that mostly aren't worth undertaking.

MOREOVER . . .

TKC attempts (and mostly FAILS) to be clever with words but never understood the frustration of many old school white dudes that their speech was limited when others indulged in using this controversial and historically repulsive term.

We were blessed to receive an explanation years ago that always rang true . . . Here it is:

"I knew my grandma's first name. I heard other people call her that name. Because I respected her, because I love her: I never, ever, called her by her first name. It wasn't for me to use . . ."

The analogy isn't perfect but it was good enough to resonate with me . . . And we share it because this blog is mostly read by old school white dudes who might not have ever had the opportunity to have someone patiently explain as much to them.

Forgive the digression . . .

As always . . .

We stress that most adults shouldn't concern themselves with high school problems unless they're a parent, school board member or have some affiliation with the institution.

 Nevertheless . . .

We share this passage that's somewhat encouraging .  . .

After publishing, Ukaoma reached out to The Defender. An excerpt from the statement can be found below;

“My take as a principal, is that I always think, what is going on here, do we have racism or do we have stupidity. In this instance I’m persuaded that it’s not racism its stupidity. Once I’m finished with my investigation, we are working with alumni, we refer the matter up and there will be consequences that follow. We are having an outside agency review the material. Once I have all that information, including what I’ve found out, then I’ll say what I recommend. The process is still on. I’ve met with a couple parents, I’ve been in communication with one of our alumni. This is a public school, we treat things publicly. We also have to be respectful of things that veer into the personnel domain.”

"While it appears the Principal, who is himself Black, now appears to be addressing the issue seriously – at the time of publishing, students who first reported the incident said they had not heard anything from the administration."
