Shots Fired At Kansas City Police During Saturday Standoff That Ended Peacefully

OP 100: 3500 block of E. 51 st

This morning, just after 8:30 AM officers were dispatched to the 3500 block of E. 51st St. in regard to a disturbance.

Upon arrival officers responded to the apartment where the disturbance was occurring. Once inside the apartment, a male suspect fired shots at the officers. Officers retreated at that time. A perimeter was set up and an Operation 100 was called.  Fortunately no officers were struck.

There were two people inside with the suspect at the time this occurred. One of them was able to exit the residence. The other is still inside.  Since the standoff has been called, the suspect has fired additional shots.

Tactical squads and negotiators are currently on scene. Negotiators are working to talk with the suspect in order to bring a peaceful resolution to this situation.

UPDATE: 

"At approximately 12:30 pm, tactical officers made entry into the residence and took the suspect into custody.  The other person who was inside the residence is safe.  The investigation will continue."

A suspect is in custody after Kansas City, Missouri, police say he shot at officers, spurring a four-hour standoff. Officers say the man shot at them two different times, but thankfully no one was hit.It all started when KCPD was called to east 51st Street near Indiana Avenue for a disturbance around 8:30 a.m.
