The Crown Center Ice Terrace opens for its 50th season on Friday

The Crown Center Ice Terrace is set to have its 50th opening day on Friday. Kansas City's most popular outdoor ice skating rink will mark the occasion with a free morning skating session and complimentary coffee or hot chocolate.The rink officially opens for business on Nov. 4 at 10 a.m.


KC-area hospitals experiencing long wait times as RSV cases increase

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Kansas City area is seeing an increase in RSV cases. Some hospitals are reporting long wait times, with Children's Mercy saying it's at "high capacity" as of Wednesday afternoon. The influx in cases means it's harder for some parents to even get a doctor's appointment scheduled, including Candace Seel.


Northeast community fills another KCPS Blueprint 2030 meeting

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Rebekah Wampler is an ESL teacher at Whittier Elementary, one of the 10 school buildings on the list for possible closure or repurposing by the Kansas City Public School district as part of its Blueprint 2030 plan. "It would be super painful to see them shipped somewhere else," Wampler said at a meeting Tuesday night.


Norovirus identified as illness that caused Olathe elementary school closure in late October

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Johnson County Department of Health and Environment has identified norovirus as the illness that closed Clearwater Elementary School in Olathe last week. The health department said that norovirus is very common and contagious. It causes symptoms of vomiting and diarrhea. "The cause was not identified," a health-department spokesperson said.

North Kansas City Hospital receives $3M gift, the largest in its history - Kansas City Business Journal

North Kansas City Hospital received a $3 million donation, the largest gift in its history. The gift came from Nancy Botham, who received neurosurgery and other care at the hospital. Botham, who left the gift after her death as part of her estate, said she made it in honor of the physicians, nurses and staff who cared for her.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - North Kansas City School District Superintendent Daniel Clemens intends to retire after the 2023-24 school year, according to a district spokesperson. Clemens announced his retirement plans to NKC School District staff in August. Applications for the position of NKC Schools superintendent will be accepted later on in November.
