Kansas City Activists Demand Police 'Local Control' But Don't Have Votes

Here's a fun way to start Monday and a bit of rhetoric that we predicted before the election . . .

KANSAS CITY ANTI-POLICE ACTIVISTS DECLARE VICTORY AFTER MISSOURI AMENDMENT 4 DEFEAT!!!

The leap in logic is actually quite impressive but, sadly, based upon a questionable premise.

The claim is that Amendment 4 lost in Kansas City and here's the argument . . .

"Local repudiation of Amendment 4 has reignited conversations among officials, activists and residents about whether it's time to reconsider who has control over the Kansas City Police Department — the state of Missouri, or the city itself."

Again . . . Here's the stat that defines this sketchy position:

"But voters in the Kansas City portion of Jackson County overwhelmingly rejected the amendment by 61%."

Now . . .

NEVER MIND THAT THIS "ANALYSIS" DOESN'T INCLUDE PORTIONS OF GOP DOMINATED CLAY & PLATTE COUNTY WHICH ALSO RESIDE IN KANSAS CITY!!!

And again . .

We myth-busted this notion last week and right now it's worth repeating . . .

One more time for the cheap seats . . .

THE VOTE TO SUPPORT POLICE FUNDING WAS ACTUALLY CLOSER TO 50/50 INSIDE KC PROPER!!!

And so . . .

The "mandate" for local control isn't really there . . .

In fact . . .

What this signals is that quite a few locals haven't learned a lot from the election and are far too busy watching cable news pundits rather than local election returns.

Moreover . . .

Quite a few outlets in Kansas City proper are remarkably one-sided and they're not telling the whole story about election returns from every corner of our cowtown.

Missouri forced Kansas City to increase KCPD spending. Locals say it's time to end state control

Kansas City has the only police department in Missouri that's under state control. Although voters statewide raised how much of the city's budget must be spent on the KCPD, activists say local opposition to Amendment 4 created an opportunity to put policing decisions back in the city's hands.
