The governments aren't saying how the firm, Wickham James, aided in the negotiation, which took place in secret and involved no updates to the public. It resulted Nov. 22 in a split with the city getting $250 million, plus $30 million for the downtown convention center expansion; the county getting $169 million; and the Dome owner, the Regional Convention and Sports Complex Authority, getting $70 million. The RSA on Wednesday signed off on the deal via a unanimous vote of its board.
A county lawmaker, Councilman Mark Harder, said he had no idea the governments had decided to hire a mediator, and questioned whether the negotiation sessions should have been private.
