Will Mayor Q's Plan To Save The Westside Actually Increase Property Taxes???

No.

Why???

Here's the thing . . .

NONE OF THE PUNDITS WHO HAVE COMMENTED ON THIS PLAN HAVE ACTUALLY BOTHERED TO READ IT!!!

HINT: IT'S JUNK THAT WON'T GET MANY TAKERS BECAUSE OF ONEROUS REQUIREMENTS!!!

The income regs for the Westside plan are very narrow . . . There's a questionable exchange of real estate title designation AND po'folk would probably do better by just selling out.

Per ushe . . .

So many experts don't bother to drill down into the deets in order to understand what they're writing about.

This is probably true in most cases but recent white dude analysis of this issue has clued TKC into the fact that these guys are attempting to decipher this hot mess at a distance of MILES away.

Here at TKC . . . We're neck deep in this gentrification slap fighting and the importance of this plan has been overstated.

STILL . . .

Generally  . . . We think this editorial makes more sense IN THEORY and when we talk about abatement concerns in the grand scheme of things . . . And because the plebs will never get the kind of sweetheart deals that our corporate rulers enjoy . . .

"This enormous neighborhood abatement plan is a very bad idea. If it were copied throughout Missouri, it would lead to increased reliance on sales and income taxes (that is a bad thing), an increase in the abuse of abatements as certain people get special deals and other people pay higher rates, and a general increase in the involvement of government in the simple act of owning a home, since a government body has to vote on plans like this. Make no mistake: if this practice becomes common everyone, on average, is going to end up paying higher property taxes."
