Old & Busted Kansas City School Suffers Carbon Monoxide Scare

This morning we learned of one more reason why a massive KCPS shutdown is underway . . .

The buildings need major repair and put students at risk. At least that's the narrative that most are taking away from a recent incident.

Coupled with low enrollment, Longfellow is one of 10 schools KCPS has proposed to shutdown.That's according to a report issued last week during a meeting on Blueprint 2030, which is the school system's strategic plan for “accelerating academic achievement and enhancing our student experience.”

On Wednesday morning, students at the elementary school were transported to Children's Mercy Hospital for suspected carbon monoxide poisoning.

Several ambulances and emergency were dispatched Wednesday to a Kansas City, Missouri, elementary school after several children were reportedly sickened by a carbon monoxide leak.The incident started around 9:30 a.m. at Longfellow Elementary on Holmes Street in Kansas City.

Several responding agencies were seen outside the school with students taken into ambulances. Longfellow Elementary School is located in the 2800 block of Holmes Street in Kansas City, Missouri.

Ten people - eight students and two adults - were hospitalized Wednesday after becoming ill from a carbon-monoxide leak at Longfellow Elementary School in Kansas City, Missouri. The Kansas City, Missouri, Fire Department said a leak in one of the building's two boilers, which are used to heat the school, was the culprit of the CO leak.
