KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Kansas City, Missouri Police Department said a body found in a pond Sunday morning is now being investigated as a homicide. Officers responded to reports of a body in a pond near E. 24th Street and Topping Avenue, just before 9 a.m. Sunday.


911 hold times reach average of 35 seconds, KCPD blames staffing shortages

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - People across Kansas City are waiting longer for help in emergencies. The average queue time for 911 emergency calls is now 35 seconds. Data reveals four days in September that had hold times averaging 50 seconds or more. "That is definitely not something that we want," said 911 training supervisor Tammy Bazzle.


$500,000 settlement reached in case of man fatally tackled by Kansas City police officer

A judge approved a $500,000 settlement for the parents of a man who was tackled by a Kansas City police officer and died. Brian Prince died in October 2017. His parents filed a wrongful death lawsuit the next year. During an unusually personal hearing Monday morning, Brian's father Don Prince said the case showed that his son's life mattered.


Johnson Co. man convicted of teen's murder over $8 Xanax deal

OLATHE, Kan. - A Johnson County jury convicted a man of killing a 17-year-old over an $8 Xanax deal. The jury found 22-year-old Matthew Lee Bibee guilty of first-degree murder, attempted capital murder, first-degree attempted premeditated, aggravated robbery, battery on a law enforcement officer, and other related crimes in the murder of 17-year-old Rowan Padgett.


Body pulled from Kansas River identified as missing Independence man

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Kansas City, Kansas, police identified the body pulled from the Kansas River last weekend as a 19-year-old Independence man. KCKPD detectives investigating the body, which was discovered around noon Saturday by a kayaker, identified the deceased as Johnathan Devol. Police said Devol was last seen Oct.


Kansas City woman disappears after hospital release

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Police are looking for a missing woman who disappeared after she was discharged from a hospital. Kansas City police say 78-year-old Mavis Czarny, was taken to a hospital Saturday evening after someone found her near 113th and North Ditman Avenue around 11:30 p.m.

Kansas City Police search for suspects involved in Midtown armed robbery

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Police need help identifying three people who robbed a Midtown business. Detectives say the individuals robbed the Shop Local KC store near 36th and Main Street. The department tweeted surveillance pictures from the business of each individual Monday afternoon. The first person is described as about 5'9″ with a skinny build.
