Coalition Boosts Rizzo Over Councilman Bunch & Activist Crissy Dastrup

Fundraising in the Kansas City home district of this blog deserves a peek as journalists across the metro struggle to report local politics to audiences who are mostly focused on national debates.

Nevertheless . . .

Our blog is dedicated to documenting life in our backyard over the garbage on TV and/or social media.

To wit here's a fun fact that should give us all a moment of pause . . .

4TH IN-DISTRICT FUNDRAISING REVEALS KANSAS CITY MOVING AWAY FROM RADICAL PROGRESSIVE POLITICS!!!

Instead . . .

Here's what we see . . .

Longtime local leader Henry Rizzo has gathered a strong coalition of both Democratic Party leaders & Republicans from across Kansas City who have boosted him ahead of his competition.

After redistricting . . . A lot of people don't realize that the 4th District not only extends pretty far into the Northland but also reaches eastward toward Sugar Creek. As always, the 4th remains the most diverse enclave in all of Kansas City.

So, now let's talk money . . .

Former Missouri Rep. & Jackson County Legislator Henry Rizzo has amassed more than $50K in less than 6 weeks of campaigning.

His campaign finance reports show some impressive names like former KCPD Chief Jim Corwin, developers Butch Rigby & Rosana Privitera Biondo along with hospital magnate Larry Arthur.

Meanwhile . . .

In this campaign finance reporting period incumbent councilman Eric Bunch only raised 375 dollars.

I had to read that twice and call somebody just to make sure it was accurate.

But that's what the dox disclose . . .

Overall, the incumbent councilman reports that he has about $25K on hand . . . Less than half of Rizzo's total.

During this reporting period the councilman only showed donations from an attorney, a civil engineer, a minister and councilman Dan Fowler . . . And no, that's not a setup for a dirty joke but a revelation that the councilman isn't dedicating a lot of energy to raising money and doesn't have many people interested in offering support.

Finally . . .

Progressive activist Crissy Dastrup garnered $2,790 from two custom home builders.

She currently holds $5,414 in her campaign war chest . . . Earlier in the contest she garnered nearly 30K but seems to have spent her cash a bit too early in the race and possibly to fend off a litany off unfair attacks from former city hall colleagues in her ongoing grudge match against her old boss.

Again, we'll be watching this one closely because this is where we live and the 4th District has always provided Kansas City with the more political fun/entertainment/slap-fighting than any other part of town.

Developing . . .
