Let's get this straight . . .

Smithville is not a "suburb" of Kansas City.

Residents of Smithville have NOTHING to do with the metro. 

It's a country town . . . Not rural and a quick drive to the KC area . . . But the "suburban" tag is a misnomer yet still raises an interesting question . . . 

IS THE NEW HOTNESS LIVING IN THE COUNTRY WITHIN A 'SAFE DISTANCE' FROM A POPULATION CENTER????

It ain't cheap and requires a lot of careful planning to do it nicely and not reside in some shack with farm animals . . . 

Still . . .

Recent rankings might give home buyers a second guess about the local good life . . .

Smithville ranked No. 39 on SmartAsset's list of best suburbs to live in near a large city. SmartAsset is a publisher of consumer-focused financial guides.

Two other cities within the Kansas City Business Journal coverage area ranked in the top 200: Lenexa at No. 85, Belton at No. 87 and Blue Springs at No. 176.
