Playlist: Kansas City Royals Enjoy Deceptive Autumn Surge Tradition

The home team wins again and seems to be on a roll with less than 10 games left in the season and after already accumulating 90 losses.

Check tonight's marginally impressive victory . . .

Cal Raleigh rallies Mariners past Royals, 6-5, in the ninth inning

Royals pitchers walked nine and struck out eight. No, don't keep reading, look at that number again. Royals pitchers walked nine and struck out eight. That is no way to win a baseball game. To be fair, the Royals were squeezed all night.

Of course the win is nice but let's not forget the team's history . . .

NEARLY EVERY AUTUMN FOR THE PAST 40 YEARS THE KANSAS CITY ROYALS START WINNING GAMES IN ORDER TO INSPIRE HOPE IN LONG SUFFERING FANS!!!

The trick is somewhat cruel but only true believers fall for it.

The rest of us merely understand that the team has to sell tickets somehow.

This time around the win streak comes with a notable management and culture shift.

Meanwhile . . .

The REAL game for the Royals will be convincing KCMO fans that their grandkids should pay for a downtown stadium. It's an argument that will be waged by way of careful bets on city council & mayoral candidates that will have surprisingly little input from the voting public.

And so . . .

We dedicate tonight's TKC playlist to this predictable end of season spike amid a mostly awful but typical season . . .

A baseball classic and a generally good tune that even ur grandpa finds agreeable . . .

Another iconic American classic offered only because it includes a tribute to Joe Dimaggio that the hero didn't understand given his active retirement and Mr. Coffee endorsement . . .

Hip-hop fans will remember that there's a great line that includes a worthwhile reference to baseball legend Rod Carew . . .

Of course we had to include a local reference to baseball history by way of a KC musical legend . . .

And we finish with an American anthem . . .

As always, thanks for reading this week and have a safe and fun Saturday night.
