Kansas City Star Decries Mayor Q's Foreboding Fence Around City Hall

Over the course of the pandemic, protesters overtook city hall grounds and set up semi-permanent camps to protest a myriad of alleged injustices.

The answer was a border wall fence from city hall that looks horrible and seems to send a clear message about 12th & Oak accessibility . . .

"Kansas City recently installed a massive chain-link fence around the City Hall building at 12th and Oak. We assume it’s meant to keep protesters off the grounds, but it may send a different message: Sure, it keeps the people locked out, but it keeps the mayor, the City Council and city manager locked in."

Fact check for a story that was reported back in January wherein the city blames construction and assures us that the fence will be removed shortly after election season . . .

But the city said don’t worry, it’s still just construction fencing needed for the $22 million project to repair the city parking garage below, and to make the building’s south entrance more secure and ADA compliant.

“As soon as its done in summer of 2024 we will go back and restore that open public plaza that we all love and know well,” Maggie Green, Kansas City media relations manager said.
