Behind the scenes we've speculated, joked and offered inside gossip about potential challengers against Mayor Q for the upcoming election.
However, here's a bit of reality check . . .
POLICE SUPPORTERS STAY LOSING DESPERATE SEARCH FOR CREDIBLE CHALLENGER AGAINST MAYOR Q!!!
There was hope that a Northland contender would emerge but that idea hasn't materialized.
Some believed that a member of the police board might step up . . . But there isn't any indication of that yet.
And here's an important fact . . .
Time is running out.
As we've noted . . . The smart candidates are already raising a great deal of money.
Insiders tell us that Mayor Q might have more than a QUARTER OF A MILLION BUCKS in his campaign coffers for the next campaign reporting period.
Meanwhile . . . Without a very big surprise in funding and name recognition, KC voters will confront yet another municipal election without any viable alternative but the incumbent.
To be fair . . . Clay Chastain is running again and the absence of mainstream candidates might allow him to have more fun.
But here's the problem . . .
An election devoid of any real challenger doesn't indicate that Mayor Q is overwhelmingly popular. Instead, what it shows us is that Kansas City's Democracy is broken and even in the midst of widespread discontent the political establishment won't allow anyone to challenge the status quo . . . Not even strident supporters of police.
And all this inspires our TKC playlist tonight . . .
You can't talk about the police without playing The Police . . .
We'll argue that for fun loving people, Falco was the most important Austrian of our time . . .
Jay-Z had problems, police politicos have problem . . . We've all got our issues to overcome and this 90s classic speaks to the human condition:
A more recent song from Eminem speaks to the culture war betwixt police supporters and critics . . .
We finish with one of our favorite songs from The Police which offers a nihilistic peek at the upcoming NOTHING of a KC election season . . .
As always, thanks for reading this week and have a fun & safe Saturday night.
