Expert explains possible next steps in DOJ investigation into KCPD

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A criminal justice professor says that an investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice into the Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department could last months. The DOJ announced Monday it's investigating KCPD over its employment practices and allegations of discrimination against Black officers and applicants.



Man charged in killing of 25-year-old woman at Shawnee apartment

SHAWNEE, Kan. - A 29-year-old man is facing charges in connection to the killing of 25-year-old Kathleen Dampier in Shawnee, Kansas. Doniel Sublett Jr. was charged Tuesday in Johnson County with first-degree murder. Just before 6 p.m. Sunday, officers responded to a medical emergency at an apartment complex near 74th Street and Flint Street in Shawnee.


Kansas City man sentenced to over 18 years in prison in $10M meth conspiracy

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A Kansas City, Missouri, man who admitted to distributing over 436 grams of methamphetamine will spend over 18 years in prison. Last August, 23-year-old Jesus Banuelos pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, one count of distributing methamphetamine and one count of being an unlawful user of a controlled substance in possession of a firearm.


Independence Examiner newspaper manager accused of embezzling nearly $430K

A former business manager for the Independence Examiner newspaper is accused in Jackson County Circuit Court of embezzling more than $400,000 from the company over the course of three years. Deneane M. Hyde, 58, of Blue Springs, is charged with one felony count of stealing more than $25,000, court records show.


U.S. Attorney's inquiry into Roger Golubski began in 2019
