Man who exited vehicle on highway dead after getting hit

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A man is dead after getting out of a moving vehicle on I-70, then being hit early Friday morning. According to the Kansas City Police Department at about 3:09 a.m., the incident happened on eastbound I-70 near I-435. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.


Pedestrian hit and killed on I-70, halting eastbound traffic near the stadiums

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - A person on-foot was hit and killed on Interstate 70 early Friday morning, halting all eastbound traffic near the Truman Sports Complex in east Kansas City. Information is limited at this time, but police said the incident happened around 3 a.m.


Johnson County Commissioners hear from sheriff on department's staffing shortages

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Johnson County Sheriff's Office is short on staff and wants the county's Board of Commissioners to help him fill dozens of open positions. Johnson County Sheriff Calvin Hayden made his case Thursday afternoon before the commission, which was sitting as the Committee of the Whole.


Investigation underway after body found near road in Blue Summit

BLUE SUMMIT, Mo. - The Jackson County Sheriff's Office is investigating a death after a body was found near the shoulder of the roadway in Blue Summit. The body was found at Truman Road and Stark Avenue near Blue Ridge Boulevard in the unincorporated township.


Four Kansas City gang members convicted of drug conspiracy

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Four members of Kansas City street gang 246 were convicted in federal court on several drug-trafficking charges Thursday. A jury found 35-year-old Ladele Smith, 33-year-old David Duncan IV, 31-year-old Roy Franklin, Jr. and 42-year-old Gary Toombs guilty of conspiring to distribute heroin, cocaine, oxycodone and marijuana from January 2011 to October 2019.

Independence city manager gives updates on Special Counsel's recommendations from the IPD Overtime investigation

The city of Independence is revealing its next steps after a police department investigation over excess overtime pay.A special counsel's five-month investigation into the excess overtime found 30 recommendations for the city to implement so that this doesn't happen again.The city manager Zach Walker told city council tonight that he wants to endorse and implement all of them.
