Yes, we know gas station coffee is cheap but sometimes it's okay to treat yourself to fancy coffee.

Even better . . . 

There are so many worthwhile indie coffee shops that even the most grumpy denizen will find a place where they can comfortably chill. Local coffee shops remain much better meeting spots than bars because the liver damage is nominal and it's a nice place to pretend to do laptop work or, even worse, write. Also, we notice the workers at local places aren't nearly as angst-y as their corporate counterparts.

A bit more reasoning . . .
