Kansas City Hates Boutique Hotel Tax Breaks

And yet . . . Many elected leaders keep voting for them again and again. 

To be fair . . . 

KCPS has recently garnered an EPIC amount of subsidy and their complaints for more cash also seem desperate and greedy.

Context . . . 

Before the days of exorbitant White House freebies that sparked historic inflation . . . Tax fighters partnered with schools & libraries to gain the moral high ground in their crusade to keep the cost of living lower. However, that alliance seems rough now  . . . Given that, again, schools have NEVER been as rich as they are now. 

Accordingly . . .

Port KC has approved the Origin Hotel with an exemption of roughly 62% of its total property tax over 20 years. Kansas City Public Schools called it an “inappropriate ask.”

Riverfront boutique hotel development raises questions about Kansas City tax incentives

With help from controversial tax exemptions, a new boutique hotel is coming to Kansas City's Berkley Riverfront. The Port Authority of Kansas City (Port KC) voted in late July to issue bonds for the Origin Hotel.
