Young teen identified as the victim in a Kansas City double shooting

One person died and another was injured after a double shooting near a convenience store in Kansas City on Tuesday, Aug. 16.Police have identified Kevaun Hughes as the deceased victim. Hughes was only 14 years old at the time of the shooting.Police say the shooting happened just after 11:30 p.m.


Former investigator in WyCo DA's Community Integrity Unit files discrimination suit

A former investigator with the Wyandotte County district attorney's Community Integrity Unit has filed a lawsuit alleging he was fired over his race, sex and religion. Aaron Circle Bear, a Native American man who is gay, in June sued the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and the DA's office, also claiming the unit, which was charged with investigating wrongful convictions and police misconduct, had a "toxic, discriminatory and hostile" culture.


Clay County jury finds man guilty of murder during a botched marijuana deal

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A Clay County jury found a man guilty of murder for shooting and killing a man during a marijuana deal. Blade Elliott, 22, killed Trinton Phillips on June 8, 2020, in the 9700 block of North Ash Avenue in KCMO, according to a news release from the Clay County Prosecutor's Office.


KCK police ask for help identifying suspects in robbery in early August

Woman found dead in rural Jackson County homicide

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Authorities blocked off part of a property in rural Jackson County, Missouri, early Wednesday morning as part of a homicide investigation. Jackson County Sheriff Darryl Forte tweeted that early Wednesday morning, deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 2800 block of Colbern Road on a reported shooting.


Man facing charges connected to Independence double homicide

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. - A 23-year-old Independence, Missouri, man is facing charges in connection to a double homicide this week in Independence. Jackson County prosecutors on Monday charged Jayvon D. Platte County serial sex offender sentenced to life in prison for sexually abusing 2 girls

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A Platte County jury convicted a serial sex offender for sexually abusing two girls. The offender, Brian K. Keeling, 55, will spend the rest of his life in prison. Keeling was found guilty of two counts of first degree statutory sodomy and one count of second degree statutory sodomy.
