Kansas City Crime Scene: Homicide Count Hits #111 & Missing Person Report

We'll start this compilation with news of the latest local murder that still puts us ahead of last year's historic homicide count.

Here's the first report . . . 

Homicide 1700 block of Gillespie

Last night about 1am officers responded to the 1700 block of Gillespie on a reported shooting/dead body call. Officers located an unresponsive male victim at the scene there. The death was not initially thought to be suspicious, however after further investigation, the Homicide Unit was called in and the death has been ruled a homicide by gunshot.

The victim, identified as Etienne Mcewan BM 05-12-1972 was declared deceased at the scene.

Detectives have a person of interest detained for further investigation and they are working with crime scene investigators, and medical examiners this afternoon to continue their investigation.

KCPD opens homicide investigation after overnight death is determined to be suspicious

A homicide investigation has been opened by Kansas City police after an overnight death is determined to be suspicious. Overnight Tuesday at about 1 a.m., officers responded to the 1700 block of Gillespie on a reported shooting and dead body call. Officers located an unresponsive male victim at the scene there.


Man found shot to death early Wednesday in KCMO

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Police in Kansas City, Missouri, found a 50-year-old man shot to death early Wednesday. Etienne Mcewan was found unresponsive at about 1 a.m. in the 1700 block of Gillespie Place. Mcewan's death was not thought to be suspicious, but after more investigation, detectives found Mcewan had suffered a gunshot wound, according to a KCPD statement.

KCPD searching for missing 15-year old girl

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Kansas City officers are searching for a missing, runaway 15-year-old girl. Soledad Brooks was last seen in the area of 124th and Wornall on August 31. She was wearing a grey sweatshirt and black jeans. She is 5 foot, 110 pounds and has brown hair and brown eyes.


DEA agents worried as brightly colored fentanyl pills, powder target kids

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Brightly colored pills are the latest effort by drug dealers to attract younger users to try the deadly synthetic opioid fentanyl. The DEA and other law enforcement agencies began seizing the "rainbow" pills in August 2022 in 18 states, according to a news release from the DEA.


Overland Park police looking for male suspect involved in attempted kidnapping

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - The Overland Park, Kansas Police Department is attempting to locate the suspect involved in an attempted kidnapping Wednesday afternoon. Officers responded to W. 91st Terrace and Robinson Street in reference to an attempted kidnapping that occurred around 3:45 p.m. The victim is reported to be a female juvenile.

A 20-year-old man is accused of shooting another man outside of a Kansas City apartment complex on Saturday during a dispute that allegedly concerned the purchase of a four-wheeler over Facebook Marketplace. Darrell A. Jones, of Kansas City, was charged Sunday in Jackson County Circuit Court with first-degree assault, armed criminal action and resisting arrest by flight from police.


Feds offer $10K reward for information on Omaha homicide suspect with ties to Kansas City

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force in Omaha is offering a reward for information on a man wanted as part of a Nebraska homicide investigation. Romeo Chambers, 25, is wanted in Kearney, Nebraska, in connection with a homicide and in Omaha for a robbery.
