The horrific countdown to 100 homicides this year continues with a deadly shooting this afternoon.
Remember at this date on calendar last year, KC had only recorded 89 killings . . . Now we're on pace to exceed that mark early in the year.

Homicide 5000 block of Bellefontaine
This evening just before 6 PM officers were patrolling the area of 51st and Bellefontaine when they observed what appeared to be a person lying on the side of the street to the north of 51st St on Bellefontaine.
As they approached they observed an adult male lying on the ground who had been shot and was unresponsive. EMS responded and pronounced the victim deceased. We do not have any suspect information and are asking for the public’s help.
Detectives and crime scene personnel have responded to the scene and are actively canvassing for witnesses and processing the scene for evidence. If you have any information please call the Homicide Unit at 234-5043. If you wish to remain anonymous you can call the TIPS hotline at 474-TIPS, with up to a $25,000 reward for an arrest in this case.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Kansas City police are investigating a deadly shooting Monday night. Just before 6 p.m. this evening, officers patrolling the area of 51st and Bellefontaine found one male on the ground. As officers approached the victim, they observed he had been shot and was unresponsive.

Kansas City police officers find victim shot to death while conducting routine patrol Monday evening
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - KCMO police officers found a homicide victim Monday evening on the side of Bellefontaine Avenue near East 50th Street. The officers were headed north on Bellefontaine Avenue just before 6 p.m. when they made the discovery. Emergency medical crews were sent to the scene on a shooting and declared the victim dead.
