Kansas City 2022 Homicide #108: Deadly Shooting Near Northeast Homeless Camp

The second KCMO overnight killing pushes the homicide count 9% ahead of last year's pace for this date on the calendar wherein there were only 99 killings recorded.

This early morning post exposes two local crisis situations . . . The continued problem with violence surrounding makeshift homeless housing AND, of course, the ongoing homicide emergency that is still trending upward and threatening to make this one of the most violent years in local history. Homicide 6201 St John

Tonight, just after midnight, officers were dispatched to St. John and Belmont in regard to a shooting.  Upon arrival they were flagged down by someone who directed them to the victim. The victim was located in the area to the east near a homeless camp.

The victim, an adult male, had been shot and was unresponsive.  Officers began CPR at that time.  EMS arrived and transported the victim to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Detectives and crime scene personnel have responded to the scene and are actively canvassing for witnesses and processing the scene for evidence. KANSAS CITY, Mo. - One man is dead following a shooting near a homeless camp just after midnight on Tuesday. Kansas City police were called to the area of St. John Avenue and Belmont Boulevard on reports of a shooting.
