Say goodbye to yet another public space as Kansas City leaders are using taxpayer funds in order to build a luxury housing and take away this former downtown gathering spot from the public. 

To be fair . . . COVID and constant violence have prevented any events at this location but the locale hosted some of the better fiestas over the years.

Now, by way of real estate hack, here's a glimpse at the current scheme . . .

Kansas City's plan for rebuilding a crumbling Barney Allis Plaza now includes a privately developed 10-story apartment building that would offer some affordable housing. The new two-phase approach calls for the estimated $112.5 million reconstruction of the city-owned plaza and underground garage to be paid for publicly, and the proposed $65 million, 226-unit apartment building to be done privately.
