Thousands Attend Kansas City July 4th 'We Are Not Free' March & Rally

An important point . . . The Mayor was scheduled to attend but not to speak at this massive gathering.

Local news imaging doesn't do it justice . . . Social media shots from the crowd show at least 1000 marchers attending this pro-choice rally on the Country Club Plaza.

We've all seen pictures of abortion protests . . . However a woman on the Kansas City Country Club Plaza dressed as a character from the Handmaid's Tale proved to be a haunting image.

Organizers of the “We Are Not Free” march said the group is peacefully protesting in support of reproductive freedom at a time when many Americans celebrate their liberties. The protesters argue abortion rights are human rights.

There’s a lot of attention focused on the upcoming Aug. 2 election in Kansas, where voters will determine whether that state’s constitution protects a woman’s right to an abortion.

“We are founded on freedom,” said Stacy Henderson, lead organizer for the rally.
