Suddenly Silent Johnson County Sheriff Stays Losing Election Interference Controversy?!?

For the most part, staying silent amid controversy is a bad strategy for any public figure, local institution and elected official.

More to the point and tonight's point of contention . . .

THE GOLDEN GHETTO TOP LAW MAN QUICKLY STOPS TALKING A BIG GAME FOLLOWING LAS VEGAS BRAGGADOCIO AMONGST RIGHT-WING COLLEAGUES!!!

Sorry to be so skeptical but nothing he said was REALLY that controversial and sounded like typical right-wing flexing to us.

For those who forget his remarks . . .

“President Trump did not carry our county,” Hayden told a gathering of the Constitutional Sheriffs & Peace Officers Association. “First time since 1914 that Johnson County didn’t vote Republican.

“So I didn’t know anything about elections. We’re cops. So we’ve been educating ourselves about elections. I’ve sent my detectives through, I’ve got a cyber guy, sent him through, to start evaluating what’s going on with the machines.”

Remember that back in March the start of this investigation was pretty much ignored.

However . . .

It was Vegas tough talk that raised eyebrows.

Now he's keeping quiet amid a slew of newsies asking him to clarify his remarks, see records and check communications -- All of which are public info.

What's worse . . .

The story is turning into national gut check on election integrity . . .

Here's a quick breakdown of the latest developments that have kept so many progressive newsies busy on Twitter today . . .

In a July 7 memo to Sheriff Calvin Hayden, Johnson County’s Chief Counsel Peg Trent expressed concerns about the sheriff's requests related to election security in the county.

More deets . . .

Johnson County chief counsel Peg Trent, who summarized the meeting in a letter to Hayden, expressed alarm about how his proposals would look to the public.

“As we discussed, my concern is that these requests give the appearance that the Sheriff’s office is attempting to interfere with an election and to direct a duly authorized election official as to how an election will be conducted,” Trent wrote.

A note from progressive legal activists . . .

"The ACLU of Kansas is deeply troubled by Johnson County Sheriff Calvin Hayden’s recent proposals to have sheriff’s office staff intrude on the county elections office’s ballot counting and pick-up processes. . . . A number of Sheriff Hayden’s proposals are deeply concerning and, if implemented, would intimidate voters."
