Kansas City Police Share Update On Westport Ale House Mass Shooting

An investigation into a Midtown Kansas City tragedy continues.

Here are the latest deets and AN IMPORTANT CLARIFICATION from KCPD . . .

The victim from the Westport Ale House shooting, CRN 22-46165, has been entered into our Homicide Tracker so you will see the number of homicides has increased by one.

Missouri Highway Patrol previously released the name of that victim.

At this point it has not been determined who shot the victim.

KCPD media unit emphasis:

For clarity, it has not yet been determined who shot the victim.  We do not know if he was shot by an officer or by someone else at the scene.  At this time, we have entered him into our Homicide Tracker.

From our perceptive . . . We know that homicide stats (TYPICALLY) no longer include officer-involved shootings in order to conform with the FBI's Unified Crime Reporting standards — It's a point of contention that we've had with the way the KC Star counts local murders.

HOWEVER, we'll take our cue from KCPD here and wait for more deets from the ongoing investigation.
