Kansas City Police Standoff At Broadway & Westport Ends: Suspect At-Large

Operation 100/Stand-off 4100 blk of Broadway

This afternoon shortly after 3:30pm officers were called to the apartments at 4111 Broadway in regard to an assault.

On arrival officers contacted two victims that are employees of the apartment complex. They advised they were inside the building when they observed a male, armed with a gun, assaulting a female.  Upon seeing the victims, the female ran away from the scene. The male went inside an apartment there and is refusing to come out.

Officers have surrounded that apartment to prevent escape and ensure the safety of the surrounding residents. They De-escalated and called for a standoff to bring tactical resources and negotiators to the scene.

Assault Unit detectives are investigating the assaults in conjunction with the tactical officers at this time.

Broadway is closed in both directions.

Jake Becchina said the incident involved a suspect of an aggravated assault. Broadway Boulevard and Westport Road are closed while the standoff ensues.
