Kansas City Hopes Sheriff Forté Can Solve Worsening Westport Chaos

Another mass shooting has inspired 12th & Oak to desperately search for solutions.

To wit . . .

THE NEW PLAN: FUND JACKSON COUNTY SHERIFF FORTÉ & HOPE MORE UNIFORMS WILL SOLVE WORSENING WESTPORT VIOLENCE!!!

Actually . . .

There's a precedent for this . . . A few years ago there was a great deal of trouble on Southwest Blvd and the increased presence of deputies REALLY DID HELP to curb some of the crime and help with crowd control.

However . . .

From a political standpoint this move might not excite our conservative readers who have long criticized the former Chief, his overtime payout record and his current political support as an elected officials for Exec Frank White's courthouse regime.

To be fair . . .

In retrospect, in his work at KCPD, Chief Forté shared a truth via social media that we wrongly downplayed . . .

The Chief noted that, he believed, rising local violence correlated to the quotient of civil unrest within the community.

TKC was proven too hasty in challenging that statement . . . Now, in the aftermath of BLM riots and COVID pandemic lock-downs which corresponded with historic levels of violence in KCMO . . . We admit that STATS PROVE FORTÉ CORRECT.

For all of our political disagreements with the elected official . . . This remarkable insight deserves consideration as we move forward.

Accordingly . . . Here's the word . . .

Days after a man was killed and five others injured in a Westport shooting, city officials are discussing whether to spend $232,000 to bring in Jackson County sheriff’s deputies to entertainment districts.

The deputies would help patrol Westport and the Country Club Plaza under the plan discussed at Wednesday morning’s Transportation, Infrastructure and Operations Committee. The money would come from interest earned on federal COVID-19 relief funds.
