Deadly July 4th: Kansas City 2022 Homicide Count Hits #75 On Independence Day

Once again the level of violence continues to outpace historic highs.

At last count, the number of local murders at this time last year was only 73 . . . That number was the 2nd highest in KCMO history. 

Overnight, two more killings added to the total.

Homicide - Dropped off at Research Hospital

Approximately 3:30 am officers were dispatched to Research Hospital on a call of a shooting victim being dropped off at the Emergency Room.  That victim, an adult male, was declared deceased by medical staff.

Detectives are interviewing the people that came in with the victim at this time to determine exactly where the shooting occurred. That investigation is on going and detectives ask that if anyone has any information about this they are urged to contact the Homicide Unit directly at 816-234-5043 or the TIPS Hotline anonymously at 816-474-TIPS. A reward of up to $25,000 is available for information leading to an arrest in this case.

Homicide 5700 block of Mersington

At 3:45 am officers were dispatched to the area of 57th and Swope Parkway on a sound of gunshots call. At the same time officers on an unrelated call nearby also heard the sound of gunshots and directed officers to the area. While officers were on the way a shooting call was reported to 911 at a residence in the 5700 block of Mersington.

When officers arrived they were directed to the back of a residence there. They located the victim, an adult male, unresponsive. He appeared to have been shot.

Officers summoned EMS into the scene who declared the victim deceased at the scene. 

Multiple people who were at the scene when officers arrived have been detained for further investigation.

Detectives advised they are not looking for any additional suspects at this time.

There is no indication that this shooting is related to the shooting victim that arrived at Research Hospital 15 min before.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Two people total were killed in two separate shootings early Monday morning in Kansas City. Police responded at 3:45 a.m. to the area near 57th Street and Mersington Avenue on a shooting call. Arriving officers were directed to the back of a home, where they found the shooting victim unresponsive.
