Kansas City Voters Scammed By Unchecked World Cup Spending?!?

In the Summer of my 40s I'm grateful for my life because I've talked to many scumbags and graciously served as the scumbag that many people have been forced to talk to . . .

Before one of the many KCMO murder spikes over the past 30 years I often conferred with a low level thug who often provided entertaining updates on my peer group.

He would comment that an old acquaintance "got got" as a rough euphemism for an unfortunate STD diagnosis, homicide or child support verdict. Accordingly, the current tagline to successful KCMO World Cup branding sparked a memory of the artful usage of the simple past tense by one of my old scumbag friends. In the end . . . Opioid addiction "got" my buddy years before dangerous & powders pills became the preferred way for young, white, Americans to check out.

Nevertheless . . .

His colorful language inspires this street level question about local irrational exuberance following the announcement of 2026 World Cup games in Kansas City . . .

IS THIS ALL JUST A BIG SCAM THAT EVADES ANY CHECKS & BALANCES FROM VOTERS?!?!

Moreover . . .

WHY DOESN'T ANYBODY MENTION THAT ECONOMIC BENEFIT FROM WORLD CUP GAMES IS NEGLIGIBLE?!?

Smarter people than TKC have figured this out.

Check this passage from the Harvard Business Review which studied the economic impact on nation which loves soccer far more than KCMO . . .

"The legacy and benefits of mega-events are notoriously difficult to measure, and it is exceedingly unusual for the full cost of a mega-event to be recovered, even when accounting for better infrastructure."

Translation . . .

POLITICOS MUST PROVE TO VOTERS HOW MILLIONS IN DEBT SPENDING ON THE WORLD CUP WILL BENEFIT KANSAS CITY BEYOND SOCIAL MEDIA HYPE!!!

Anything less is just a ripoff and deserves to be met with skepticism and opposition by taxpayers who disagree with rampant cash expenditures for soccer when local politicos have neglected sewers, roads, trash pickup and public safety.

You decide . . .
