Kansas City Record Rain Downpour Probably Saved Buzzard Beach

Tonight we're taking a look at a quick but hopeful note from one of THE ABSOLUTE BEST TKC READERS who was on the scene of today's blaze with her KICK-ASS hubby and shares a bit of citizen journalism with our blog community.

This might not be a tale of pennies from heaven but, as always, Westport's favorite party spot caught a break from record-breaking early morning rainfall.

Here's the story . . .

"Just spoke to a Buzzard Beach worker. He said they were lucky. Both of the bars (upper and lower were not damaged. Only 1 window had to be knocked out. It was mostly contained to the patio. They will reopen in a month or 2. Employees working at Johnny Kaw's/Yardbar called Fire Dept. It had only been burning noticeably 20 minutes or so. They think it was electrical or lightning and the heavy rain saved the bar . . .

"Peeps are so upset and think all the old school bars are being run out of Westport."
