Kansas City Activists Demand 'Down Payment' On Green New Deal Today

Midterm election season is upon us and some of the most strident activists in the metro will descend upon 12th & Oak today in order to advocate for progressive policy.

AOC's agenda is now in play in this cowtown and the Sunrise Movement KC must work quickly given that they only have 12 years until the sky falls.

Here's their plan for today . . .

Join us on Wednesday, June 8th at 5 pm to amplify our simple demand to city hall: Say YES to climate action, NO to fossil fuel executives! Pass the Climate Protection & Resiliency Plan with NO edits and get to work on building a livable, just, safe future in our lifetimes!

Over the past several months, Sunrise Movement KC has organized the community to respond to KCMO’s Climate Protection and Resiliency Plan, a city framework to guide climate action over the next few decades. Thanks to OUR organizing, this plan could be a down payment on a Green New Deal.

The community’s participation at The People’s Climate Town Hall and the public comment process has led to climate justice edits such as:

💥 Prioritization of frontline communities
💥 Green social housing
💥 Closing the Hawthorn Coal Plant
💥 Expanded, convenient bus lines with ADA accessibility
💥 Removal of “renewable natural gas” and a commitment to prioritizing clean energy
💥 And a whole lot more!

Now, council needs to pass this plan ASAP and transparently, without delay. We get more when we demand more. Hear from Sunrise Movement KC leaders and take action with us.
