DOUBLE SHOOTING NEAR UMKC TONIGHT!!!

The urban core university campus confronts gunfire this evening.

Perspective . . .

This info is important and we don't want to include much snark in this post. However . . . As an almni of the institution, it's important to understand that it's not like the traditional college campus . . . The sound of gunfire from surrounding streets isn't completely uncommon but usually doesn't hit students.

Here's the lastest as of this writing . . .

"UMKC Police reported in an all-campus alert. The victims were driving in a car southbound on Oak Street when they were fired on by a pedestrian. The suspect remains at large. UMKC Police did not provide a description."

More . . .

"UMKC reported an active shooter at the intersection of 51st Street and Oak Street in Kansas City, an area on the west side of campus with several restaurants and residence halls."

UPDATE . . .

Police are now saying there is NOT an active shooter situation.

Here's their note . . .

"A shooting has occurred there but there is NOT an active shooter on the campus and we do not believe that this is related to UMKC.

"It appears that it occurred in the area of 50th and oak but was likely between individuals who knew each other and not something random. This is all preliminary information . . ."

"Wanted to squash all of the talk about it being an active shooter and something related to the campus it is neither of those. Last I heard there are two victims with non-life-threatening injuries."

To be fair . . . "All of the talk" is from quite a few social media messages from UMKC students reacting to gunfire that echoed through campus.
