Kansas City History: Lamar Hunt's 1st Choice For Chiefs Was New Orleans

Earlier this week our blog community debated an interesting write-up from the "historian" of this cowtown's pro-football franchise.

Thankfully . . .

TKC HISTORIANS SHARE THIS BRILLIANT RETORT THAT PUTS KANSAS CITY CHIEFS HISTORY INTO THE PROPER PERSPECTIVE!!!

Special thanks to the very knowledgeable and KICK-ASS TKC READER who sent this our way:

A history lesson about the Chiefs people seem to sweep under the rug.

TKC, after reading Bob Moore’s propaganda piece on the Chiefs moving to Kansas City, I think it’s interesting that he left out a small, but very important fact about the move.

Yes H. Roe Bartle was a “visionary “ for bringing the team in town offering them the world. But he’s something that many people forgot. The main reason why the Chiefs are in Kansas City? New Orleans said no.

That’s right, New Orleans was Lamar Hunt’s first choice to move the team after it was apparent Dallas preferred the Cowboys over the Texans. Another thing the Chiefs like to sweep under the rug. But they couldn’t get permission from Tulane University to use their stadium.

At the time the university thought the AFL was a flash in the pan and could close up shop any year. On top of that there have been rumors of the city getting a NFL franchise.

So The Big Easy was out and before they could look anywhere else here is this doofus mayor in a headdress from a upper midsize Midwest city offering them the world. Kansas City here they come.

Just something to think about when Jackson, Wyandotte and maybe Johnson Counties are in a battle royal for the honor of spending millions of tax dollars to give the Chiefs a fancy dome stadium.
