How Much Money Should Kansas City Waste On Unwatchable Lady Soccer!?!

Here's the deal . . .

IF DEVELOPERS NEED TAX CREDITS TO BUILD THEIR STADIUM THEN IT IS NOT, IN FACT, PRIVATELY FINANCED!!!

Here's biz speak "journalism" arguing otherwise . . . Meanwhile, public money on a sport that nobody wants to watch likely isn't a great investment no matter who picks up the check . . .

The cost jumped from from $70 million to approximately $120 million. The venue, which is billed as the first purpose-built stadium for professional women's soccer in the U.S., still will be privately financed.

"Construction and material costs are rising, so increased development costs reflect this reality," said Jon Stephens, CEO of the Port Authority of Kansas City. The Current has a 50-year ground lease with Port KC.

Stephens noted that the new $120 million figure also includes development and financing expenses, plus reserves.

According to new Kansas City filings, the Current intends to seek up to $6 million in state tax credits through the Missouri Development Finance Board.
