Merriam, Kansas Moves Forward On Abandoned Kmart Site Redevelopment

A HUGE empty lot has earned the attention of developers who, of course, are asking for taxpayer cash to assist their power play.

Here's a glimpse at the project as the legacy of American retail fades . . .

"After some uncertainty over the property’s future, Overland Park-based Drake Development appears to be holding steady on its plans to turn the long-vacant lot into a mixed-use development . . . Drake is requesting tax increment financing, or TIF, as well as industrial revenue bonds, or IRB, to reduce the sales tax on building materials, according to city documents."

After some uncertainty over the property's future, Overland Park-based Drake Development appears to be holding steady on its plans to turn the long-vacant lot into a mixed-use development.
