Kansas City Fountain Day: Racist Legacy & Mostly Incomplete?!?!

Kidding . . . Kind of.

The J.C. Nichols tribute marker was removed after years of mostly pointless protest.

However . . . There are other "problematic" markers out there that locals activists might discover in their next round of protests.

For now, we celebrate a local tradition and notice that about half of local KCMO-operated fountains remain shut down

The Kansas City Parks and Rec Department will turn on about 50 publicly operated fountains now that the weather is warmer.

Fountain Day Kansas City ceremony to honor Anita B. Gorman

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A springtime tradition returns Tuesday morning when leaders in Kansas City, Missouri, flip the switch to activate city-owned fountains on what is dubbed Fountain Day. Tuesday's ceremony takes place at 10 a.m. at the Northland Fountain located in Anita B. Gorman Park. The ceremony will pay tribute to Gorman.
